Tas: Severe thunderstorms expected in Tasmania

Tasmanians are being warned to brace for severe thunderstorms crossing the state this afternoon.

The weather bureau has predicted damaging wind .. large hail and flash flooding in
the state's south east.

It says lightning and winds strong enough to bring down tree branches and power lines
are expected until nine o'clock (AEDT) tonight.

Heavy rain and hailstones large enough to damage cars have also been predicted.

The SES has advised residents to secure outside items .. move cars under cover and
then go indoors.

Telephones should NOT be used during a thunderstorm unless the call is urgent.
